MEET CHIBIA

Singer/songwriter and violinist Chibia Ulinwa thoughtfully pairs deep introspective musings, inventive melodies, and lush productions to realize her uniquely soulful sound and bring life to her carefully crafted compositions. Whether she’s performing an intimate duo set, or bringing her full band to the stage, Chibia is able to captivate audiences with her genre-bending originals and reimagined covers. Joined by Alex Koehler on keyboard and bass, Clay Parkman on guitar, and Chris Parkman on drums, Chibia's live sound features a complex combination of neo-soul and R&B, with elements of alternative rock, folk, highlife, jazz, and funk. She has shared bills with Lamont Landers, serpentwithfeet, Alex Cuba, and other local acts including Jimmie Herrod, Sarah Clarke, Julia Logue, foamboy, and many others.

Her track ‘Honey’ has been featured in Marvel’s She Hulk as well as Queen Sugar on the Oprah Winfrey Network. It has also been voted one of KMHD’s best singles of 2020, quoted as “not a second of its 4 minutes land flat— and as soon as it’s over, you put it on again.” In August 2023, Chibia released her first 4-song EP, “So This is Love Vol 1” in August 2023 and followed up with Vol. II in November 2024, both available on Bandcamp and streaming services.

Chibia tirelessly balances her budding music career and artistic vision with her role as an orchestra director in public schools across the river in Vancouver, Washington, inspiring younger generations of musicians. She is also an accomplished lettering artist and illustrator under her creative studio Inkus Dingus, having worked with brands like Target, Kleenex, Hero Cosmetics, American Greetings, Adobe, and more.
